Last weekend the UFC was in the Goiânia Arena in Goiânia, Brazil for UFC Fight Night 67 and there were a few fighters on the card who were in enemy territory looking to make an upset happen. Carlos Condit and Norman Parke were two such fighters and had a lot of media attention coming into fights. There was one foreign fighter however that didn’t receive as much media coverage coming into the fights. His name….Darren Till
In Fairness Darren Till only took the fight on 10 days notice meaning it was harder to promote the fighter in his debut for the UFC however how much difference would there have been had Darren Till been scheduled to fight for longer? In my opinion…not that much. Darren Till grew up in Liverpool and was part of team Kaobon, a notorious MMA gym based in the north west of England which has produced some of the Uk’s best talent including Terry Etim, Paul kelly and Paul Taylor. He made is debut in Merseyside at the Olympia going 3-0 before relocating to Santa Catarina in Brazil two and a half years ago and hasn’t returned to the UK since. He met his now wife in Brazil and has a daughter who turned one a few months ago. This is no doubt a major contributing factor as to why Darren Till has flown under the main stream radar up until now. Things are likely to change when considering his devastating performance he put on against Wendell Oliveira on Saturday night. Coming into the cage it certainly looked as though Darren Till was giving up a lot in strength as Oliveira is as muscled up as they come in the welterweight division. This didn’t however show in the fight! Oliveira takedowns were easily stuffed and Till looked comfortable against the cage. Round 1 was kind of static with neither fighter getting doing to much damage. Round 2 however was a different story. Another takedown attempt from Oliveira was brutally stuffed by Darren Till who then ended up in half guard and wasted no time in landing some the most vicious elbows we have seen the octagon. They quickly rendered Oliveira unconscious and the ref stepped in
Darren Till looks to have a lot of promise, he’s supremely confident and his post fight interview shows that. He labels himself and his hero and he seriously believes in his skills. All the ingredients for a great fighter. With his first UFC in the books it will be interesting to see what’t next for the UK fighter. MMA Exposed confidently predicts great things from this young star…remember…you heard it here first!!!
