Fight to Watch: McGregor Vs Poirier

When we talk about the UFC these days it doesn’t take long until Conor McGregor’s name comes up. He may be the biggest star the UFC has ever seen. Even UFC president Dana White has stated that he has more media attention that the former UFC heavy weight champion Brock Lesnar. It seems he can do no wrong when it comes to making a name for himself. Even after his second fight in the UFC when he was sidelined for months he was never out the media’s eye and since then he has won back to back fights finishing both opponents in the first round via KO. He’s certainly doing all the right things to stay in the spot light.

It was his last fight that really got his name out there during the build up to his fight against Dustin Poirier.

Dustin Poirier had been a stand out fighter in the UFC with clear talents across the MMA spectrum. In particular his striking is very efficient with many of his wins coming via TKO. Going into the fight with a 16-3 record with a lot of those wins against some of the UFC’s top contenders it was clearly McGregor’s toughest test to date and many thought Poirier would be the man to really test McGregor and maybe beat the Irish sensation. Not McGregor however. He was as confident and as brash as ever during the build up and riled up the American fighter very quickly. Describing Poirier as a “journeyman” among other less than complimentary things McGregor was predicting an “easy” fight in his journey towards the title. It was clear that Poirier did not like the Irishman’s behaviour and it only served as great entertainment once again for the many fans in the McGregor camp. The media say stare downs and weigh ins were as intense as they come and the anticipation for the fight was evident. McGregor does have a unique ability to convince people he is as good as he says and that no one stands a chance against him. Its an attitude that must play a part in his success.

The fight went down pretty much exactly as Conor McGregor predicted. Check out the full video of Fight to Watch: McGregor Vs Poirier below.
